Porsche Mission E Pricing To Start About $85K, Like Base Panamera
Porsche intends to sell the production version of its electric Mission E sedan concept for around the same price as a Panamera when the EV arrives before the end of 2019, company boss Oliver Blume tells Car. At least in the United States, this means buyers should expect base prices of about $85,000 when the model hits the market.
If Porsche can hit this price target, than the Mission E’s cost would sit in between the existing $79,500 Tesla Model S 75D and $99,000 100D. However given the rapid evolution of Tesla’s vehicles, there could be completely different versions of the Model S available in 2019. According to Car, Porsche intends to offer the production Mission E in multiple power outputs, and they would carry the brand’s existing model badging, like S and GTS trims. If the vehicle is a success, different body styles could join the lineup later.
In concept form, the Mission E packed an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain with 600 horsepower (441 kilowatts) and a battery providing an estimated 310-mile (500-kilometer) NEDC range. The powertrain allowed the sedan to reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.5 seconds and lap the Nürburgring in less than 8 minutes.
Porsche will 700 million euros ($838 million) to build a dedicated factory and paint shop for the Mission E and potentially future EVs. The automaker will also spend some of the money to update its engine plant for building electric motors.
